Check Federal Immigration Custody Releases

To find someone released from federal or immigration custody after a Throckmorton County case, first identify the agency that received the person. No federal prison, immigration detention center, or dedicated federal holding facility was verified in Throckmorton County. A departure from a county jail may instead be a transfer to the United States Marshals Service, Bureau of Prisons, or immigration custody. Each system has a different search route. The county departure record establishes the handoff, while the receiving authority confirms its own custody or release. A missing locator result never proves return to the community.

No Local Federal Release Facility

Research found no BOP institution, ICE detention center, or dedicated federal jail in Throckmorton County. The “Federal / immigration custody systems” entry is therefore a custody route, not a local building. It applies only when a warrant, detainer, federal case, immigration matter, or transfer record points to one of those authorities.

Begin with the Throckmorton County Sheriff. Ask where the person was transported and whether a later receiving agency is recorded. If Stephens housed the person, its official Sheriff and jail contact can confirm when Stephens custody ended. The county or host-jail record should name USMS, BOP, ICE, or another destination before a specialized locator is treated as relevant.

Custody boundary: leaving a county jail for federal or immigration control is a transfer, not proof of community release.

Confirm a Throckmorton Federal Transfer

Follow the custody chain in order. A broad search can miss a federal pretrial prisoner or confuse a former BOP result with a county release. The local record supplies the bridge between systems. Ask for exact agency names and dates rather than accepting the general word “federal.”

  1. Confirm the physical county or contract jail with Throckmorton Sheriff.
  2. Ask that jail for departure date, time, type, and receiving agency.
  3. Check the federal court docket when a federal prosecution is identified.
  4. Use USMS contacts for pretrial or remand custody questions.
  5. Use BOP only after federal sentencing or commitment enters that system.
  6. Use ICE ODLS only when immigration custody is implicated.

BOP Federal Release Search

The Bureau of Prisons Inmate Locator covers federal prisoners released after 1982. Search by BOP Register Number, DCDC number, FBI number, or INS number when available. A name search can be narrowed by race, age, and sex. Results display Name, Register Number, Age, Race, Sex, Release Date, and Location. A current prisoner’s date can be projected or recalculated; a former prisoner’s result can supply the federal release date.

BOP fieldHow to read it
Name and Register NumberMatch identity within BOP
LocationCurrent BOP institution or custody status
Release DateProjected for some current prisoners, historical for former prisoners
Released / Not in BOP CustodyDeparture from BOP only
UNKNOWNNo usable date supplied in that result

A former-inmate result does not establish departure from Stephens or another county jail. It also does not exclude state, county, immigration, or other custody. The local transfer record and the BOP record answer different stages.

The official BOP Inmate Locator is shown below as the correct federal-prison search route.

The locator can establish a BOP status or release date after the person has entered that system, not the reason a county jail released or transferred the person.

Read Federal Release Results Carefully

BOP’s record explanation is essential when a result says “Released” or “Not in BOP Custody.” That phrase means the person is no longer controlled by BOP. It does not mean the person has no supervision, no pending case, or no custody under another authority. Federal supervised release can also follow prison release, though it is a court-supervised status rather than BOP incarceration.

The BOP explanation of locator records documents these status limits.

Read the BOP date beside the federal record, then compare it with the county transfer and federal court history. Do not copy the BOP date backward as the county-jail departure date.

USMS Federal Custody Releases

The United States Marshals Service handles federal pretrial and remand prisoners and may use state or local contract beds. It does not provide a nationwide public former-prisoner locator that works like BOP. A person moved from a county jail on a federal hold may be in USMS custody before any BOP record exists.

Use the federal court docket for detention, release, sentencing, and commitment orders. Contact the appropriate USMS district for custody questions when the jail names that agency. If the person is later sentenced and committed to BOP, the BOP locator becomes relevant after its record activates. A negative BOP search during the pretrial stage is expected in some cases and cannot prove release.

Request the county or host jail’s transport event as well. It should connect the local booking to the federal receiving authority. Court authority and physical handoff may occur on different dates, so keep both rather than merging them.

ICE ODLS Custody Search

The ICE Online Detainee Locator System is oriented to people currently in ICE custody or in CBP custody longer than 48 hours. It does not search people under 18. Use an A-Number and country of birth, or search by name, date of birth, and country of birth. The exact identifiers matter because names can vary across records.

ODLS routeNeeded information
A-Number searchA-Number and country of birth
Biographical searchName, date of birth, and country of birth
County recordTransfer destination and receiving authority
Immigration case or EROFollow-up when ODLS does not resolve the status

A missing ODLS result does not prove release. Transfer, removal, name spelling, data timing, another authority, or the search’s coverage limits may explain the absence. Confirm the original handoff through the jail record, then use immigration case or Enforcement and Removal Operations channels when necessary.

DHS-VINE Immigration Release Notices

DHS-VINE is separate from Texas VINE. It provides confidential custody-status change notice concerning noncitizens to eligible victims, witnesses, and specified representatives. It is not the Texas county inmate search and should not be presented as a public list of Throckmorton releases. Use it only when immigration custody is actually part of the case.

The official DHS-VINE map and access route is pictured below.

A DHS-VINE notice concerns the agency feed and eligible notification record. It should prompt confirmation with the named custodian. It does not replace ICE ODLS, the immigration case, or the county transfer record.

Request Federal Transfer Release Records

For a Throckmorton arrest, request the Sheriff’s arrest report, transport log, booking referral, receiving facility, transfer date, and later destination. The office is at 108 Pogue Street, P.O. Box 578, Throckmorton, Texas 76483, and the published phone is 940-849-8855. If Stephens was the host, request its admission and departure event separately.

Name the receiving authority exactly. Ask for the release or transfer type, authorization, destination, and any agency or prisoner identifier. The Throckmorton and Stephens agreement shows why out-of-county custody must be established before interpreting a roster disappearance. It does not itself establish any federal or immigration transfer.

For a federal case, the court docket supplies detention, release, sentencing, or commitment orders. For BOP history, use BOP records channels. For ICE, preserve ODLS results and immigration case correspondence. A certified or agency-issued event carries more weight than a transient status screen.

Compare Federal Immigration Release Routes

The four routes are complementary, not interchangeable. Choose the one supported by the custody record.

SystemPrimary roleMain limit
County or host jailLocal departure and receiving agencyDoes not prove later federal release
USMSFederal pretrial and remand custodyNo BOP-style public former-prisoner locator
BOPFederal prison location and release recordDoes not cover all federal pretrial custody
ICE ODLSCovered current immigration custodyA negative result is not release proof
DHS-VINEEligible immigration custody notificationsNot a general public county search

The strongest conclusion comes from a chain: local departure event, named receiving authority, relevant federal record, and court or immigration case action. State each system’s status separately.

After the Sheriff or host jail identifies USMS, BOP, or ICE, use that authority’s official district, locator, or case contact. Do not guess a local destination from the type of charge or an absent roster entry.

Note: A county departure and a later federal release are separate events that need separate official records.
